CAR - A Vehicle for Change

The Center for Artistic Revolution, CAR, is a 501 (c)(3)sponsored, statewide, grassroots community based organization.

CAR was founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2003 by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered and Queer Arkansans (LGBTQ) and their straight allies who believe that all people should have equitable access to fair treatment, a democratic political process, and economic and environmental justice.

CAR works with a holistic combination of progressive education, organizing skills, advocacy, and creative/cultural work in order to create a fair Arkansas that values all of its residents.

Our commitment to intersectional work means that CAR strives to build intentional bridges of understanding and collaboration between diverse communities, to dismantle the "isms" and the phobias that continue to disenfranchise, oppress, and exclude people. In this way we build the real relationships that allow us all move forward in the quest for the well being, fair treatment and equality for ALL Arkansans.

About CAR:

CAR is working across the state building a progressive movement for justice by connecting people, communities and issues.

CAR believes that justice isn't about "just us", that it's about justice for all people and their communities.

CAR was created as an intentional vehicle to bring diverse people together who may not initially believe that their struggles are related in order to communicate concerns and issues, promote leadership development, develop organizing skills and implement strong organizing campaigns that address the issues and the systemic oppressions that undermine access to equality and quality of life.

CAR is also intentional in lifting up youth/young adult leadership and organizing, and working collaboratively with other organizations on common objectives.

CAR is dedicated to raising awareness of the false constructs of and the connections between race, ethnicity, class, gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation and how these "isms" and "phobias" continue to disenfranchise, oppress, exclude and relegate many people to second-class status. We are dedicated to dismantling these constructs and ending their ability to disenfranchise individuals and communities.

CAR continues to challenge other social justice organizations in the state that persist in avoiding and excluding the question of justice for other communities for fear of alienating their core constituencies.

CAR believes that all people should have freedom of religion and freedom from religion.

CAR believes that the unique combination of community education, organizing strategies and advocacy infused with creativity/cultural work creates a deeper level of pride, commitment, powerful messaging and retention of the participants resulting in greater forward movement.

CAR's Work Includes:

  • Working to end discrimination
  • Securing legal protections for our lives and our families
  • Ending hate driven violence
  • Making our schools safer for ALL students
  • DYSC - An LGBTQ/SGL and Ally youth program ages 14-23
